Well, this afternoon, although it was raining non-stop I went ahead and attended the organizational meeting of Toastmasters in Dumaguete. I did not know anyone there, in fact nobody invited me to be there, but I had read an announcement online about this meeting at Bethel Guest House. It's out of curiousity more than anything that I went there, and indeed, when I looked at the faces of those around, I was perfectly sure nobody recognized me. So I sat on one corner, observed, and waited. Guests started arriving and finally, the meeting was called to order. We were shown how a regular Toastmasters' meeting would go, and one part of the program, called Table Topic segment, involved the delivery of impromptu speeches by some seasoned members and guests. Guess what? I was the one called to do the speech! Why me? Did anyone recognize me after all? So I did what I was asked to do and I think they sort of liked it because the old members mentioned the possibility of me competing nationally against other members from all over the country. What? At my age? (thought I) So it was one of the weirdest afternoons for me to end up delivering an impromptu speech!
