old tree falls and kills tryke driver in Dumaguete

This happened last Saturday at around 10:00 in the morning right in the middle of the highway in front of the city's NSO. It was a good thing that the old tree chose to fall on a Saturday when the NSO is closed. Otherwise, we just don't know how many people would have been part of the tragedy since the National Statistics Office is one office that is always jampacked with all types of people. The acacia tree was so huge that its body extended all the way across the whole street and landed on the roof of the NSO. The tricyle driver was pinned down along with his pedicab that looked like a flattened can of sardines.

The big question is, why? Why did authorities not act upon it with urgency? The falling tree was already reported a week before but why government people did not act upon the report is something nobody understands. It was pure government negligence and oversight for not doing something about a situation that could have otherwise been prevented.
